The Dryft Board features a 500w hub motor. The motor controller has been tuned for torque and acceleration. This give you lots of "wow" and tons of control. Stock speed is 20mph. However, speeds of approximately 30mph may be achieved by changing your aft wheels to larger longboard type wheels. This modifications should only be used with the mode selector in commute setting. Speed may be dependent on rider weight and incline of the pavement.
How does the battery perform, and how long does it last?
The Dryft Board is powered by an advanced 698Wh (48V 15 Ah) UL2271 Compliant battery offering continuous riding for a range of up to 17-20 miles, depending on rider weight, speed, riding style, incline and other factors. The battery can be easily swapped to keep your adventure going.

Does the Dryft Board come with any safety features?
Please refer to our features section on the home page. Dryft Board scooters offer many safety advantages over 2-wheeled e-scooters. Our the combination of a 16" front tire and MTB size disc brake means we stop in half the distance of other e-scooters. Our 4 wheels provide both passive and active stability This, combined with our independent suspension, means we are much less prone to balance related accidents. But wait, there's more :-). We also have dual forward facing driving lights, wide-spread brake lights, and a 1000 lumen high-low beam headlight.
What kind of brakes does the Dryft Board use?
The Dryft Board is equipped with a hydraulic disc brake with an aluminum caliper body. Our disc is much bigger than that found on 2-Wheeled scooters allowing Dryft to stop in nearly half the distance. One of the most common causes of scooter accidents is related to the small discs and small tires on 2-wheeled scooters.
Is the Dryft Board easy for beginners to ride?
The answer is YES. We have watched over 2,000 people ride for the first time. Riding with the vehicle set to Commute Mode has a near-zero learning curve. Even people who are so athletically challenged that they can't ride a bicycle or a rental scooter, ride immediately and joyfully. Learning to ride in Sport Mode takes a few minutes. Of the over 2,000 demo rides, the average time to "drifting" competence was 3 to 10 minutes.
Riding in Sport Mode is a sport. You will figure it out very quickly. Yet, like any sport, you will enjoy the process of getting better and better each time you ride.
What are the different ride modes, and how do they work?
The Dryft Board features a proprietary Mode Selector, a two-position switch on the Dryft Caster that allows riders to choose one of two super-fun and radically different riding experiences:
- Commute Mode: With the Mode Selector set to Commute, the caster wheel is locked enabling a super stable type riding experience reminiscent of holding your edge while snowboarding or skiing. This mode is perfect for a trip to the coffee shop or riding two-up (kiddo or furry friend on board). This mode is so stable that people who can't balance on a bicycle or rental scooter just jump on and start smiling.
- Sport Mode: With the Mode Selector set to Sport (toward the DRYFT logo), the caster wheel spins freely. This mode unlocks the ability to float right and and left through turn creating the vibe of a "powder day" on your snowboard or skis. We have watched thousands of people learn Sport Mode. The average time from zero to drift is approximate 3-10 minute. You will learn it quickly and then enjoy improving (like any sport) every time you ride.
The secret to success in Sport Mode is "trusting the throttle". Each time you feel yourself staring to float to the side, avoid temptation to come off the throttle. Do just the opposite. The throttle is what straightens you out and ends each drift.
How does the Dryft Board maintain balance during fast rides?
Dryft Board e-scooters are self balancing. Their 4-wheel configuration gives them both passive and active stability.
What is the role of the center caster wheel?
The center caster wheel provides a dynamic pivot point and constant contact with the pavement.
The Dryft Board maintains 3-wheels in contact with the street or terrain (your big front wheel, one outside aft wheel, and the caster wheel). As you move from one turn (carve) to the next, you will transition from the front wheel, left aft wheel, and caster to front wheel and caster (for a second) and thence to front wheel, right aft wheel and caster. That brief moment of transition, on the caster plus the front wheel, is nearly identical to what skiers and snowboarders experience as the move from edge to edge (a brief moment on the flat of their skis or board).
When riding in Sport Mode, you will use that brief moment on the unlocked caster wheel to begin to float your turn. As you transition back to three wheels, the float begins to terminate.
Can I customize the handlebar height?
Yes, the BMX-style 4-piece handlebars can be adjusted to match the rider’s height, ensuring maximum comfort and control during the ride. Recommended rider height is between 5’ – 6’5”.
What makes the Dryft Board’s design unique?
Nearly the entire e-scooter industry is an iteration of a children's toy. Two-wheeled e-scooters are not ideal for adults. Dryft Board e-scooters were designed from the ground up for adults. We considered all the problems, limitations, and disappointments of the two-wheeled e-scooter world and went to work.
Please visit our home page where we compare the numerous improvements and advantages of Dryft e-scooters over traditional scooter. A few bullet points are offered here.
- 16 inch front wheel, not 9 inch scooter wheel. Go over crack and holes, not into them.
- 160mm disc brakes not 120mm. Add this to the big wheel. We stop in half the distance.
- Nearly double the surface area to stand on. Ride comfortably. Bring a dog. Bring a kiddo.
- Independent Suspension which is not possible with a two-wheeled vehicle.
- Lighter than most premium scooters.
- Breaks down to fit in you trunk.
How does the Dryft Board perform on different terrains?
Drift e-scooters are great local transportation. If you live in area with lots of gravel roads or even dirt roads, consider swapping your aft wheels for 120mm long board wheel. Remember, the our e-scooters are modular. That means that, when we spin out new models (e.g. Offroad), you will not need a new scooter. You can purchase just the board.
No doubt, Sport Mode is most fun on good roads. Just like skiing, snowboarding, or surfing, conditions matter. A new clean pavement is a powder day or an offshore wind.
